Patricia L. Hunter's "Women's Power – Women's Passion"
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Patricia L. Hunter raises questions that have been asked for centuries; through her insightful analysis, the reader is able to gain a significantly better understanding of just how patriarchal and hypocritical religion is as a whole. That women were to also be made in God's image brings to light the notion of gender superiority, inasmuch as there should be no separation between male and female when it comes to one gender oppressing the other. The author continues by pointing out that not only does such a dominance exist, but there are also subgroups of women who are considered even less worthy than others, with African-Americans considered one of the lowest of all female gender subgroups. At the crux of her article, Hunter tries to raise the bar on blind acceptance of conventional religious interpretation as being the final word in gender roles. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Policy Analysis Of Battered Women
[ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. The extent to which the prevalence of battered women has reached its apex is both grand and far-reaching; that legislation exists to address this perpetual behavior speaks to the regularity this social ill persists. While all states experience much the same occurrence of battered women, as well as their respective legislation to deal with its frequency, Michigan has historically been slow to reach the same levels of protective legislation as other states around the country. Therefore, this paper will recognize the incidence of battered women both nationally and from Michigan's narrower perspective, as well as address the improvements Michigan's legislative policy has made over the recent past. Portrayal of Sexuality as Found in Muriel Spark’s “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and “The Driver’s Seat”
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing the portrayal of sexuality in Spark’s two works “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” (1961) and “The Driver’s Seat” (1970). Muriel Spark presents different portrayals of women and sexuality within two of her works, “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and “The Driver’s Seat”. In “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” Spark uses strategies to allow the reader to become aware of her constant comparison of Brodie’s life with that of a man’s. As Brodie becomes more in control during the “prime” of her life, her character is physically and mentally compared with that of strong historical figures. In addition, Spark shows Brodie as a representative of the growing feminism throughout the 1930s in which women began to travel more on their own and live their lives outside of the religious confines of the past. The central character, Lise, in “The Driver’s Seat” however, portrays an embittered and business-like modern women. Spark uses business imagery to describe Lise and how women in the 1960s modern business world have become ordinary, tight-lipped and are judged on how many personnel are “above them” or “below them”. In addition, Lise tries to search for a man who has a “lack of absence” which indicates that men as well as women are affected by the impersonalized nature of the modern world.

Prostitution: Differing Feminist Views
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page overview of the inroads made to understanding female prostitution which have resulted with feminist research. Notes that feminist research on female prostitution has in itself exhibited a two-sided approach to the issues. On the one hand, feminist research indicts female prostitution as a system of exploitation and sexual abuse and as an institution which results in sexual subordination and enslavement. Other feminist research, however, views female prostitution as a means by which women can empower themselves and materially prosper by preying on the needs and desires of men. Summarizes each view and concludes by noting that the key to understanding prostitution is a fuller understanding of the applications of the words "choice" and "consent". [ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. The issues of gender, patriarchy and sexual violence are inextricably intertwined within the complexities of social existence. That women have always had to confirm their worth as human beings serves as a significant indicator to the overwhelming oppression thrust upon the female gender by means of physical and emotional abuse. Examining the extent to which women have been the recipients of such barbaric treatment at the hands of their male counterparts enables one to gain a better understanding of how the progression of sexual violence has perpetrated through the ages; only within the last few decades of the twentieth century have women been able to find any solace through crisis counseling, protective legislation and the enlightenment of law enforcement authorities.
