The Islamic Community of San Diego and the Impact of the Events of September 11, 2001
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper describing the impact of the September 11th, 2001 had on the Islamic community of San Diego. The Islamic community in San Diego was hard hit after the terrorists’ attacks of September 11, 2001 for many reasons: firstly, two of the terrorists were found to have been living in their community before the attacks; secondly, in the mid-1990s, an Islamic extremist group, the American Islamic Group, decided to move their central headquarters to San Diego from the East Coast; and third, despite the fact that the population of Muslims in the San Diego area is over 100,000 and the history of their community goes back over 100 years, the non-Muslim community in the area had instantly began to fear and resent them. Because of this, the Muslim community in San Diego immediately began information and educational forums in an attempt to open and introduce the Islamic community to their neighboring communities. Although, the response to their open forums was slow at first, they hope that with continued effort on their behalf and on the behalf of non-Muslims that their fellow Americans will understand that Islam is a religion based on peace and not hatred. The Middle East: Islam Religion And Arabic Language Taking Hold In 800 AD
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. To believe that God is almighty and the primary source of enlightenment is to understand the very cornerstone of Islamic principle. However, the road to Islam's expansion in 800 AD Egypt, Syria and Iran was not paved with roses, but rather frequently sprinkled with many deep and offensive thorns. Pre-Islamic culture in Egypt, Syria and Iran experienced significant opposition with regard to the issues related to the rise and subsequent rapid spread of Islam. There was nothing left untouched with regard to the affect of Islam: food, clothing, social customs, art, literature and anything else that played an integral role in a person's life was significantly altered by Islamic intervention. Arabic lettering assumed the job of expressing the native dialect; in fact, such customary usage of the Arabic language had become especially widespread as to be fully adopted by Egypt, Syria and Iran. An empire is usually said to have a youth, a middle age, and then a decline, but it is unusual that this would occur over such a long time frame. The Spread of Islam: The Result of a Variety of Factors
[ send me this paper ]
An 11 page discussion of the factors influencing the spread of Islam. While these factors can be attributed to specific events such as the independence of the Muslim states in the aftermath of World War II, the spread of Islam and the speed of that spread is really attributable to much more basic factors. These factors include societal need and receptivity, familiarity, the oral nature of the religion, the lack of need for formal structures, technology, and the high visibility of public figures who have converted to the religion. Notes that today Islam is represented by over one billion Muslims and comprises the majority in fifty nations. While some of this growth can be attributed to population growth in the predominantly Muslim countries conversion is a factor as well. Each of the above discussed factors has played a tremendous role in the conversion of many to Islam and in making Islam one of the most popular religions today. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
