In 5 pages the author discusses Anne Hutchinson. Why did the Puritan rule of Massachusetts consider Anne Hutchinson to be a threat? Anne Hutchinson was seen as a dissident. She was a paradigm to other dissidents. The Puritan rulers were afraid of Anne Hutchinson. They could not condone her argument against them. Hutchinson was merely a woman that was trying to speak her mind. This was unheard of in that century. She and her followers brought fear to the men of the time. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Comparing Bradstreet And Taylor
[ send me this paper ]
Anne Bradstreet and Edward Taylor were both poets of the Puritan tradition in New England. The poetry produced by Bradstreet and Taylor is very different, though both contemplate the spiritual aspects of their time. This 5 page paper argues that Bradstreet searches for religious meaning within the context of the physical world as she experienced it, while Taylor depended on the scriptures and his own Calvinist beliefs to provide a more metaphysical view of the spiritual interpretations of life. Both poets were steeped in the Puritan culture but interpreted procreation and birth in very different ways. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

What If… Our Very Beginnings Had Been Reversed?
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing how the character and configuration of the American East Coast might have evolved differently had Puritans come ashore at Jamestown and John Smith had settled the Northeast. The ultimate difference visible today could well be that we would exist as two nations rather than one, for it is likely that early industrial growth may have been centered in the South rather than in the North. As it was, Southern settlers had difficulty establishing lasting settlements because of their arrogance with the Indians and the Indians' eventual bloody impatience with them. Northern settlements experienced far greater continuity because of their greater ability to coexist with the native groups residing there before the settlers arrived, allowing those settlements to progress more linearly. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Women As Priests ?
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper on the controversial issue of womens' ordination. The writer is particularly concerned with the impact that mid-1990's statement made by Pope John Paul II had on the topic ('I declare that the church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the church's faithful'). The discussion continues with the views of other clergy, disparate opinions from different sects of the religion, and so forth. It is concluded that if there is truly some religious reason for barring women from the priesthood, it has not been effectively articulated as of yet and thus, women should be ordained--even though this will not be widely-accepted anytime soon. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Conducting 'Business by the Book'
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing the superiority of Christian ethics and values in operation of daily business over that of either pure Jewish or Platonic principles. The Christian view is one that holds forgiveness in higher esteem either than Jewish or Platonic tradition, and is one that is more flexible than Jewish law or Plato's lengthy and sometimes circuitous rhetoric. Today's business is too fast-moving and straightforward to make full use of either historical law or extensive rhetoric. Christianity's emphasis on personal responsibility without condemnation of others and exhortation to coexist in peace with others also is a requirement of successful business today Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Plato's Theory of Forms & Wittgenstein's 'Notion of Truth'
[ send me this paper ]
Plato's Theory of Forms outlined in a number of his dialogues including 'The Republic' and 'Parmenides,' is based in the perception of knowledge and the limitations of the senses. Plato recognized that man is limited by his sensory perception in an understanding of the natural of the world around him, and as a result, proposed the Theory of Forms in its initial sense to reflect a more complete understanding of the essential nature of the world based outside of the sensory and in the rational. Wittgenstein, in 'Notion of Truth' also considers the comparison between the actual and the perceived, and evaluates truth both as a component of basic understanding and an element directly correlated to the physical world. This 6 page paper reflects these concepts and provides support for components of both philosophers' arguments through the texts they created. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
